Nosophilia – is an idee fixe of being ill, the desire to notify everyone about it and to find a way to cure yourself. Very quickly nosophilia becomes a part of everyday life and what’s the most interesting about it is the fact that the subject likes being ill and to brag about the details.
In the video, a passionate desire to create, while being misunderstood, is identified with this psychiatric disorder. In the eyes of the unprepared viewer, new practices of contemporary artists are an exam that they cannot pass. From the artist’s point of view, mass audience, that supports only mastery in painting and other traditional genres, deprives the artist of its social niche. Such a dramatic perception of reality, the laws of which can not be changed, leads to a recurring conflict. The most dangerous side of nosophilia is that a person who is convinced of his illness can provoke it in their real life. Repetition of the thought makes her real.
The main character of “Nosophilia” gives himself entirely over to the illness. His previous insecure state is being replaced with a drift across a provincial town. There he becomes a vile and obscure creation himself.
