Warstraction

2023

1-channel video | fullHD | 16:9 | stereosound | 56’44”

The video work is 28 layers of superimposed images of the war in Ukraine. When put together in this way, they become an abstraction which, to my mind, is the integral background of our new life, the foundation of our existential catastrophe. At some point this video collage begins to morph into a polygonal grid that moves in the same way as the original video. It is an attempt to isolate another abstraction from the original – one that is more distant from the first, but retains its essence. For me it is a kind of expression of processes that happen to all of us – the human capacity to adapt to even the most terrible things.

On the other hand, the polygonal grid is some simple kind of VJing at a party. Emigrants argue about the war, but then try to return to their normal rhythm of life.
